Hanafi Ulema’s Interpretation of a Hadith on Prophet’s 5 Rakat Prayer in Zuhr

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: A musalli in the musjid where I am Imam gave me a hadeeth which is narrated by Abdullah that “once the prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) offered 5 rakaats in zuhr. He was asked, “is there an increase in the prayer? the prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, and what is it/ they said, you prayed 5 rakaats. So he bent his legs and made 2 sajdahs” this is the hadith. He wants to know what do the hanafi ulema say about this hadith?

A: If he is an Alim, tell him to refer to I’laaus Sunan.

Q: He is an ordinary musalli in the musjid and asked the question when I was discussing sajdah sahw and when sajdah sahw is made.

A: If he is in the position of understanding Arabic with the necessary commentary’s, he should check it up himself. If he does not have this ability, then he should restrict himself to the ‘Ulama he is in contact with.
