Debt, Guilt, and Secrets: My Struggle to Repay Loans and Seek Forgiveness

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am heavily indebted with loans from banks. I am trying to settle them all but lately I have other financial problems that keep rising making the burden heavier. I know all of the difficulties are my fault interest = declaring war with Allah I would like to know what I can do to make maaf to Allah at the same time paying off my debts, and my wife doesn’t know how deep in trouble I am as I am afraid if I tell her she might leave me.

A: Sincerely repent to Allah Ta’ala for the sins you have committed, and make a firm resolve that in future you will not return to those sins. Recite the following dua after the five daily Salaah, Insha-Allah, Allah Ta’ala will assist you in settling your debts.

اَللّهُمَّ اكْفِنَا بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنَا بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice us with halaal (and keep us away) from Haraam and make us independent from others through your grace.
