Standing up before “Haya Alas Salaah”

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

  1. Is it makrooh to stand up before the Maqadir says ” Haya ala Aslah” in the Iqamah?
  2. What is a Muqadir?
  3. Could a detail understanding be given to the above question as  it is creating  confusion?

A:

  1. It is not makrooh to stand before the mukabbir says hayya `alas salaah.

  2. One who says the iqaamah.

  3. As the time (stipulated time for the namaaz in that particular musjid) for the farz namaaz sets in you may stand up when you see the imaam. If he enters from a door in the qiblah direction then the entire jamaat will stand up for the namaaz when he enters. If the imaam comes from the rear then the saff that he is passing by will stand up as he passes them, and if the imaam is already in the front saff then the jamaat will get up as he gets up. Standing up at hayya `alas salaah is in that situation when the entire jamaat is already seated in their places and the imaam was already in the front (perhaps he may have been conducting some program with the jamaat). Hence, the imaam is already in the front and the jamaat has already formed the saffs. Therefore, there will be no additional effort required to get the saffs straightened in this particular situation. It will now be permissible for them to stand at hayya `alas salaah.
