Dividing an Estate: Understanding the Distribution of Assets Among Family Members

Q: A women died leaving behind 1 son, 2 daughters, 3 brothers and four sisters. Please explain the division of the estate.

A: After deducting the burial expenses, debts and one third of the estate for bequests, the estate will be divided into 4 shares and will be distributed as follows:

The son will receive 2 shares

Each daughter will receive 1 share

NB: The above Shar’ee distribution of inheritance is based on the information provided regarding the total number of heirs of the deceased present.
