Selling an item in my shop that I dont have in stock

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Could I sell an item in my shop that I dont have in stock? for example,i sell bathroom ware and a client wants a bath tub and they request a white bath tub and pay for it to be delivered. I then accept payment and purchase the bath tub from the wholesaler and deliver it to the clients house. Is this permissible?

Bismillaah

A: Selling a commodity that you do not possess is impermissible. You may sell the tub after taking possession of it. Tell your client that you do not have it in stock and you can make it available for him. You should then add a profit to your cost price.
