Q: I would like to know more about the name Thoban, was he a Sahabi and the meaning and any special incidents regarding him?

Bismillaah

A: Thobaan (radiyallahu anhu) was a Sahaabi of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and his freed slave. His name was Thobaan bin Bujd. He was purchased by Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and thereafter freed. He always remained in the company of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), serving Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) whether on journey or in Madinah Munawwarah, until the demise of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Upon the demise of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), he travelled to Syria and resided in a place called Ramlah. Thereafter he migrated to hims where he passed away in the year forty five Hijri.
