Q: I have got a job offer at a convention center where small to large scale parties are held. Catering services are also offered. Menus may include alcohol and pork dishes. My job can include serving to the guests. I have no other job at this time. Could i take this job?
A: Just as it is impermissible to eat wine and pork, similarly it is impermissible to serve the same. If you cannot find any other job beg, Allah Ta`ala’s forgiveness, take the job but try your best to look for a halaal alternative.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنصَابُ وَالْأَزْلَامُ رِجْسٌ مِّنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ﴿المائدة: ٩٠﴾
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّـهِ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ﴿البقرة: ١٧٣﴾
عن أنس بن مالك قال لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم في الخمر عشرة عاصرها ومتعصرها وشاربها وحاملها والمحمولة إليه وساقيها وبائعها وآكل ثمنها والمشتري لها والمشتراة له (جامع الترمذي 1/242)
