For the sake of the muslim ummah and particularly for myself i humbly ask for guidance as to what the ruling is regarding the rainbow chickens etc issue? Haraam or Halaal? It is very confusing and disturbing to find ulama cannot state 1 true ruling. My heart pains to see the ummat so upside down and in turmoil.

A: Alhamdulillah, it is great that you have the concern of the ummat at heart. May Allah Ta`ala reward you. This issue is not recent. It was always and will always be in matters of halaal and haraam. Take a simple situation: If you are invited to eat at a person’s home, how will it possible be for you to establish whether you are being fed with halaal or haraam. If your past experience with him is that he is quite straight and upright in Deen and he is particular as to where he sources out his meat and he understands that the source is also quite careful in matters related to the shari`ah then you will eat at his home. However, if you not clear about this you will either excuse yourself or express your disapproval.

This is a matter that is not just related to ulama. Most Muslims know the procedure of making an animal halaal. One who is not clear of the procedure being followed, should investigate from the source directly or investigate from ulama-e-kiraam or other authorities who are inspecting the plant. If for some reason none of these can be adhered to, then refer this to reliable people in whom you have confidence and respect their taqwa, experience and understanding of Deen. If this procedure is followed I do not see there being any reason for you to feel confused and your heart to feel any pain.
