Remembering one’s past after making taubah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have done evil sins which no one knows about and sometimes when my friends talk about those people I feel uneasy in my heart and when I am reading the Quraan, a verse reminding me of the sin and I repented sincerely from the sin. How should I react? Should I pretend I never did it?

Bismillaah

A: After repenting to Allah Ta’ala for your past sins, then do not deliberately think about those past sins. Similarly, do not expose those sins to people. Speaking to people about one’s past sins or discussing other people’s sins is not permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
