Settling one’s father’s debts after his demise

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My dad died on 10th September due to cancer. After his death, many people came with bills that he had debts. I am his only daughter so how can I pay all this debt and what should I do to pay this debt. Can we use interest money to pay the debt to non-Muslims.

Bismillaah

A: The procedure is that you settle the debts from his estate. And if he has not left any wealth and you wish to help you may help. If not, they cannot force you to settle his debts.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
