Inheriting a Million Rand: Splitting the Estate Among Family Members

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: A friend of my brother passed away and left behind a mother, wife, 4 brothers and a sister. His brother had an investment of a million rand which would be paid out in the near future insha Allah. He asked me to find out what is the split of inheritance between the family. How much does each individual get?

Bismillaah

A: The estate will be divided into 108 equal shares and distributed as follows:

Mother will receive 18 shares – R166 666.66

Wife will receive 27 shares – R250 000

Each brother will receive 14 shares – R 129 629.62

Sister will receive 7 shares – R64 814.81

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
