Reciting tasbeeh in the last two rakaats of fardh salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: An Aalim said in the last two rakaats of a Fardh qadhaa salaah, it is not necessary to recite any surah. One may merely recite SubhanAllah/Alhamdulillah/Allahu Akbar (either one) 3 times. Is this true?

Bismillaah

A: Yes, this is correct. In the fardh salaah (whether it is the fardh salaah of the time which one is performing or a qadha fardh salaah) one has the choice of reciting Surah Faatiha or reciting tasbeeh e.g. subhaanallah, alhumdulilah, Allahu akbar, etc., in the last two rakaats. However, reciting Surah Faatiha is better.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
