Q: I am 19 and I am talking to a girl that is 24. I want to make nikaah so that it will no longer be a sin. Is it permissible to make the nikaah through the phone, and what are the conditions for the nikaah to be valid. Also, can I do this without informing my parents?
A: For a nikaah to be valid, the offer and acceptance from the girl’s side and boy must take place in one sitting and place in the presence of at least two sane adult Muslim males. Further, the hadeeth teaches us to publicise the nikaah as this will save you from all sorts of complications.
