Correct transliteration for salaam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: How can I write the salaam? I mean “As-salamu alaikum” in a proper way in English. Nowadays most people are writing salaam in English in different ways. Please explain whats the correct and incorrect way.

Bismillaah

A: There is no exact equivalent for Arabic words in the English language. A close transliteration will be “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh”.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
