Distributing sadaqatul fitr on behalf of one’s baaligh children without informing them

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Do I have to discharge fitrah of the previous years if I had discharged it on behalf of my baaligh children and my wife without their making me a wakeel for them or asking me to pay it? It was known to some of them that I pay their fitrah every year.

Bismillaah

A: If you are supporting them, then the fitrah is valid even though you did not inform them before discharging it. However, if they are independent and are not being supported by you, then the fitrah is not valid. They will have to discharge it again to the poor.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
