Father’s Rights and Illegitimate Children in Islam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Does a father have a right over a child born out of wedlock? Are children born out of wedlock connected in Islam?

Bismillaah

A: The biological father (the fornicator) does not have any right over the child. The child’s lineage will be attributed to the mother. If the mother is a muslim, the child will be considered a muslim.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
