Finding the qiblah on a ship

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am working on a ship for 6 months at a time. Sometimes we go from America to China and I cannot find the qibla. On sea, our normal application does not work properly so it is difficult to find the qibla. I am performing salaah without knowing qibla direction. Is it permissible?

Bismillaah

A: If there is no way that you can find out from someone or you cannot even see the rising or setting of the sun then you will employ your discretion and perform your namaaz.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
