Marriage Without Parental/Wali’s Permission: Is it Valid?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Can a girl get married without her parents/wali’s permission? I read a fatwa that the marriage will be invalid without the girls parents/wali’s permission. Please guide.

Bismillaah

A: It is against etiquette for a woman to perform the nikaah without the consent of the wali and guardian. However if it was done with a person that is within the kufu then the nikaah will be valid.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
