Islamic Toilet Etiquette: Western Toilets and Indian Toilets

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. Is it allowed to use the western toilet in Islam?

2. While performing instinja on an indian toilet, water splashed on my feet and body from my private parts. Also sometimes, water splashes from the toilet surface. Are these splashes impure?

Bismillaah

A:

1. As far as possible refrain from this since the splashes from the toilet always come back onto the one sitting on the toilet seat.

2. Don’t unnecessarily entertain doubts. If you are certain about it being impure then wash it.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
