Spending iddah in the husband’s house

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My wife and I want to separate and need guidance as per Islamic teachings:

1. Can my wife spent her iddah period after 1 talaq in my house as we do not want to disclose our separation due to her father’s chronic illness? What are the restrictions in this case?

2. What is the period during which we can reconcile after 1 talaq?

Bismillaah

A:

1. Yes.

Let her be in a totally different room in the house.

2. If you reconcile within 3 monthly courses (three haidh) then you will not have to renew the nikaah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
