Understanding Khatam: My Dilemma as a Sunnah Follower

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I was invited to attend a khatam. Can you explain what it is and am I in the wrong for not attending as I was requested but I follow the sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and was it ever mentioned to do khatam or milad and so on?

Bismillaah

A: Coming to a khatam is not part of deen. Those who are organising these types of khatams should not believe this to be an act or requirement of deen. Your non-participation was right.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
