Giving sadaqah on behalf of one’s deceased mother

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to know about sadaqah. My mother passed away and I want to give some sadaqah in her name. Is this allowed in Islam?

Which type of sadaqah good for her? Can I give some money to poor people or to a Masjid on behalf of my mother?

Bismillaah

A: Yes.

Sadaqah is done for the sake of Allah Ta`ala and the reward is transferred to the person you intend. Whatever are the basic human needs of the people around you, provided it is halaal and permissible, that will be more rewarding.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
