Financial Instability and Pregnancy: My Dilemma

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am married and five weeks pregnant. I have a two year old son. I don’t want the new baby as I am financially unstable and I am planning to move abroad. The new child will cause us many troubles and we will face many problems there as well as here in Pakistan. Please can you allow me to abort?

Bismillaah

A: Being blessed with children is a great bounty and blessing of Allah Ta’ala and a means of bringing immense barkah in one’s life. There are many people who despite desiring children are not granted children. Hence, do not be ungrateful to Allah Ta’ala for this favour and bounty.  It is not permissible for you to abort the fetus in your womb. If you abort the fetus , you will be sinful in the court of Allah Ta’ala. Just as you are granted the opportunity to live, you should not deprive the fetus the opportunity to live.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
