Distributing an Estate: A Guide for Families with Multiple Heirs

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My father passed away and left behind wife, 2 sons and 4 daughters. He also left behind 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 maternal aunt. Can you please explain how the estate should be distributed?

Bismillaah

A: The estate will be divided into 64 equal shares and distributed as follows:

Wife will receive 8 shares
Each son will receive 14 shares
Each daughter will receive 7 shares

The brothers, sisters and aunt do not receive anything in this case.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
