Kaffaarah for missed fasts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What is the amount to be paid for kaffarah for fasts.

Bismillaah

A: If you are referring to kaffarah for fasts missed due to illness, then the sharee ruling is that if one is unable to fast due to sickness, ill health etc. he should give the amount of fidyah (the amount of sadaqatul fitr) to the poor as kaffarah for each missed fast. Later on, if he recovers, then he should keep qadha for the missed fasts. The fidyah discharged for the missed fasts will not suffice.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
