Lying to receive a scholarship

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have got a scholarship from the govt. based on my matric marks. I lied when in filling in the required form. If I would not have filled that in by lying, I would not had received the money… So can I use the money?

Bismillaah

A: If you are doing some work and you have been remunerated for the work that you are doing then this is permissible. However, it is not right to make false statements and claims.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
