Are Alcohol-Based Perfumes Halal or Haram?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I studied fatawah about using alcoholic perfumes. But I’m not satisfied with it. So my question is usage of alcohol based perfumes are halal or haram?

Bismillaah

A: If the alcohol is produced from dates or grapes then it is impure and it cannot be used at all. If it is manufactured from other sources then they may be used for external purposes. Generally, the alcohol used for commercial purposes is not from grapes or dates.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
