Distributing inheritance equally

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to distribute a will equally to keep unity in the family. We are 4 brothers 2 sisters. We want to share the money equally, can we?

Bismillaah

A: The inheritance will have to be distributed according to the laws of Shariah. To distribute the estate equally is impermissible and a grave sin. After each heir receives his rightful share (provide he/she has reached the age of puberty), he may do with it as he pleases. If later on he wishes to gift any portion of his wealth to any family member without any coercion, he may do so.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
