Giving sadaqah to one’s domestic worker

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to give extra money to someone working for us at home, doing cleaning, ironing, etc, as hadiyah or it will be like a bribe to let him work better? What about the intention of compensation thinking we are paynig less than the amount of work he is doing?

Bismillaah

A: It is permissible provided you are giving him a fair wage and the full amount at the time it is due. Over and above this, if you wish to give him a gift or sadaqah, then it is permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
