Performing salaah immediately after azaan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Our madrasah teacher once told us that we should wait for a while after Azan and pray around 10-15 mins later (i.e. she was trying to say one shouldn’t immediately start praying after Azan). Is it true?

Also, my father told me that there’s a Hadith that says that one should quickly pray after Azan. Is there such a Hadith?

Bismillaah

A: Once the time has set in, the namaaz can be performed straightaway.

To perform the namaaz in the mustahab time is most virtuous, rewarding and emphasised, and for some namaaz it is best that it be performed immediately after the azaan like maghrib. According to some Asr salaah as well.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
