Best and Prohibited Days for Hijama (Cupping)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I would like to ask what are the best days for having hijama (cupping) done and if there are any days on which hijama (cupping) should be prevented or is prohibited.

Bismillaah

A: There are many Ahaadith reported regarding the benefits of cupping. Cupping is a type of medical treatment and to adopt a treatment is permissible. However, medical treatments and operations should be carried out by someone who is qualified and experienced in the field of medicine. The Ulama explain that all medical prescriptions mentioned in the Ahaadith should not be carried out by oneself independently. Rather it should be carried out under the supervision and guidance of an experienced doctor, expert physician or one qualified in the field of medicine. This is in order to save oneself from any complications coming about or harm being caused to oneself.

From the days of the month, special mention is made of the 17th, 19th, and 21st of the month. It is reported in the Hadith that cupping done on the 17th, 19th, and 21st of the month is a means of shifa for sicknesses.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
