Woman working during iddat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to ask about khula. I have taken khula about 4 days ago. My husband lives in Australia and he is not with us for the last 16 months. I started working in December and I am in my probation period because of which I am not allowed to leave. If I leave the job then it will be difficult for me to get another job as I am a mother of a baby boy. This is my source of income so that I can pay for his school and other expenses in future. Kindly guide me according to my whole situation.

Bismillaah

A: If there is someone to support you from your family, it will not be permissible for you to work. If there is no one to support you and you do not have sufficient wealth, it will be permissible for you to work. However, you should ensure that your entire body is covered with covering your face and you observe purdah from strange men. Refrain from wearing attractive clothing and applying all types of make-up for the duration of the iddat. Similarly, after work, you should immediately return home before the night.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
