Can I Marry My Cousin’s Daughter After Breastfeeding Her Once?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My mother breastfed her sisters daughter only once when she was ill and at that time my mother breastfed her daughter. Now we like each other and want to marry according to Islam. Is it permissible for us to marry?

Bismillaah

A: Even if a woman breastfeeds an infant child once, she become the child’s foster mother and her children become the child’s foster siblings. Hence, you cannot marry your cousin as she is your foster sister.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
