Is it necessary to follow a fatwa given by a Mufti?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If I ask a scholar a question and he gives me a fatwa, is it necessary to follow that? Does necessary mean wajib?

Bismillaah

A: If he is qualified in issuing fatwa and he informs you of the ruling of the mazhab you follow, then it is necessary for you to follow the ruling of your mazhab.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
