Civil Marriage in Court: Accepted in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is civil marriage in a court accepted in Islam?

Bismillaah

A: If there was a proposal and an acceptance found from the husband and wife or their representatives in the presence of two baaligh male Muslim witnesses or one baaligh muslim male and two baaligh muslim female witnesses, the nikaah will be valid.

Note: The nikaah will be valid on condition the proposal and acceptance took place with the correct words.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
