Taking a pill to prevent falling pregnant

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am a first time mum and my baby is almost 3 months. I feel that I might be pregnant due to not getting my menses on time. Is it permissible for me to take a pill? I feel my child is still too small and I dont want her right of being breastsfed not be fulfilled to her stipulated age. However I just feel I could be pregnant and it is not for certain.

Bismillaah

A: If you are already pregnant, it will not be permissible for you to terminate the pregnancy. However, if you are not pregnant, and you do not wish to fall pregnant soon as you want to give full attention to your infant child, then it will be permissible for you to take the pill to prevent falling pregnant.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
