Aborting a foetus with a chromosome disorder

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My wife is expecting and the test result shows that the foetus which is 15 weeks old has a chromosome disorder trisomy 18 which means that either there may be a miscarriage or if the child is born, the baby will be having several physical defects and may not survive long. There is no risk to the mother’s life in general. Please advise what should be our approach.

Bismillaah

A: I suggest that you allow the pregnancy to continue. Assign this entire case to Allah Ta`ala. When it is in the hands of Allah then there will be some good that will come out which perhaps we may not be able to comprehend immediately.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
