Overcoming Addiction to Blasphemous Content on Tumblr: My Struggle and Seeking Guidance

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have been using an app called Tumblr for watching porn and one day while surfing I accidently came across a blog which contained blasphemous content. I saw some of it but got rid of it and repented later and felt so guilty that I actually blocked that person. But now it has come to me as an addiction that whenever I see a blog like that then in my heart I know that it’s wrong and it may contain blasphemous content but still I visit those blogs and as a result I see some of them. I always feel guilty afterwards and promise not to see it again but somehow I get there. Can you please tell me how can I get rid of this for life and please also tell me if watching blasphemous content makes one a kafir?

Bismillaah

A: In order for one to be successful or achieve any goal in life (whether worldly or Deeni related), one is required to show determination and courage. Without determination and the necessary effort one will not succeed in reaching his goal. Consider the evil consequences in the grave as well as in the hereafter on account of committing such detestable deeds. It appears in the Hadith that in the manner a person leads his life that is how he will pass away and leave this world, and the manner he passes away he will be resurrected on the day of Qiyaamah. Imagine being resurrected on the day of qiyaamah with those dirty and filthy people one enjoyed viewing! Make sincere tawbah and attend the programmes and gatherings of the pious. If you are not married, then you should get married. May Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) assist you in reforming your life.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
