Taking husbands assets after a divorce

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am a 40-year-old female. I am legally blind and have no child and unemployed. I am living in an abusive marriage and thinking of getting divorced. My question is, by Islamic law, am I eligible to get alimony/property/any asset? I live in USA so will it be a sin if I acquire alimony/property/asset by American law?

Bismillaah

A: No.

This is haraam and forbidden.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
