Circumcision of Women in Islam: Quran and Hadith References and Safety Concerns

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am from India. Could you please provide references from the Quran Sharif and Hadith on whether Circumcision of Women is Compulsory in Islam or not? I have heard that it can be harmful and dangerous for women and can even cause death, if not done correctly.

Bismillaah

A: It is not compulsory. You may refer to Abu Dawood and Bazlul Majhood.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
