Ihram: Plane or Jeddah for Umrah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If I am on safar for Umrah and the intention is to go to Makkah first but I decide to spend one night in Jeddah. When will I have to wear my Ihraam, on the plane or after spending the night in Jeddah?

Bismillaah

A: If your intention is to go to Makkah Mukarramah and you are only stopping over for the night in Jeddah, you should put on your ihraam in the plane before passing the meeqaat.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: One last scenario, if the intention is to sleep one night in a Jeddah hotel and leave the next morning to Makkah for Umrah. Do I still have to wear ihraam on plane or can I wear it in Jeddah that morning?

Bismillaah

A: Since one’s destination is Makkah Mukarramah, one should wear the ihraam in the plane.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
