Hukm of Jahri and Congregational Zikr in Masjid: Maulana Thanwi’s Recommendations

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. I would like to request the hukm of jahri and congregational zikr in the Masjid. One person initiates it and the rest repeat after him.

2. What is the recommendations of Hadhrat Maulana Thanwi (Rahimahullah) in this regards?

Bismillaah

A:

1. Reading in a chorus in this style is makrooh (Al-Muwaafaqaat). However, to make jahri zikr or sirri zikr individually (not in chorus) is permissible, be it in the musjid or out of the musjid provided the zikr does not disturb any person performing namaaz etc.

2. Zikr-e-jahri was encouraged by him as well.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
