Woman working from within the home due to constraints

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am married to a man who works in his fathers business. His father deals in interest and sells haraam. My husband knows its haraam but says he gives up trying to do something else and just takes what comes.

My husband is depressive and unmotivated. The business doesnt seem to be doing well either. Also my husband has almost hit me. I really want to be financially independent from him. I don’t know where we will be finacially in a few years time. I do have enough savings to study something and go out and work. I want to know if I should do that?

I know mufti encourages home business. I dont know what kind of home business will generate income. I live in a area where I dont know alot of people. I dont know what to sell or what to start from home.

Bismillaah

A: If there is a need for a woman to do some work then it should be done from within the confines of the home. On account of the abundant fitnah we will never encourage women to leave their homes for studying purposes etc.

Everybody starts of in a condition that you are in presently. Experiment and it will take on insha-Allah and trust in Allah Ta`ala, whether it is baking, savouries, etc.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
