Giving fidyah on behalf of one’s deceased mother

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My mother died a couple of months before, she didn’t fast for many years because she was disabled from 20 years and because of negligence. My question is, does fidiya have to be given for the missed fasts of a dead person, even though the years she didn’t fast is unknown.

My second question is what is the amount of fidhiya to be paid for not keeping one fast.

Bismillaah

A: If she did not make a bequest for this you do not have to give fidyah on her behalf. If you wish to do it then it is optional. You may give it from your own personal wealth.

The fidyah amount for a single fast is the the amount that is given for sadaqatul fitr.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
