Divorce Letter from Bangladesh: Is My Friend’s Marriage Over?

Q: My friend’s husband sent her a divorce letter from union porishod from Bangladesh to America. But both of them were living in America at that time. Are they divorced now?

A: If the husband had wrote out the talaaq, the talaaq is valid.

Q: No, the husband didn’t write down anything because he can’t read or write Bangla. But the divorce papers has his signature. In that case what they should think?

A: If he signed the divorce papers, the divorce is valid.
