Opposing Forced Marriage: My Struggle to Marry Outside of My Family

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Since my issue is very clear through my subject, the problem is, my family is forcing me to do marriage within my family with my cousin. I want to marry someone else. I am opposing and fighting with them since two years, but no outcome. They still think the same because usually girls marriages are not done outside the family in our family. They have to face everyone and because of their so called “khaandaan ki izzat” family honour, they are not even listening. My parents always cry in front of me and they keep on saying that I am going against Allah’s will, I am disobeying my parents and Allah will punish me and I am with Shaitan and doing offensive acts. Please guide me. I am very depressed. Please help me with your assistance.

Bismillaah

A: Listen to your elders. May Allah Ta`ala give you happiness and a good future.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
