Paying bank charges with interest money

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have both, a current account as well as a savings account at a bank. The savings account is interest-bearing.

In disposing off the interest earned on the savings account, can the interest amount be paid out of the current account or it can only be paid out of the savings account as the interest was earned on this account?

And can the interest earned on the savings account be offset against bank charges debited on the current account and only the difference disposed off?

Bismillaah

A:

1. Yes, it can be taken out from the current account.

2. No, it cannot be used to pay for any services.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
