Thinking of committing suicide

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I think I have to do nothing with my life. I have been working hard to make it better but, by time it is getting even worse. I think Allah doesn’t need me as well. Can I commit suicide, so that it can help me or people around me?

Bismillaah

A: This is stupid thinking. There is no blessing as great as life. After life, opportunities have all ended. So even to think of ending life is a great act of ingratitude. No matter what difficulty you are going through now, it is far lesser than the difficulty you will be confronted with if you commit suicide. Hence suicide is just a beginning to a far greater disaster.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
