Dating: Why it’s Haraam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Why is dating haraam?

Bismillaah

A: In Islam it is impermissible for a non-mahram male and female to be in contact or to have a casual relationship with each other. Apart from this being impermissible, this type of contact generally leads to many wrongs and sins taking place. The Hadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) explains that when a non-mahram boy and girl remain in seclusion, then the third one present is shaitaan. Hence, all types of premarital relationships are haraam. It has been proven that more than 80 percent of people who courted or dated before nikaah, their marriages have resulted in a failure or disaster.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
