Can Kuffara Replace Iddat Period After Khula?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If I take khula and I don’t do iddat period instead of iddat period can I give or my parents give kuffara for the iddat period or its necessary to do iddat and how many days iddat will be there?

Bismillaah

A: Khula is subject to the acceptance of the husband. If the husband accepts the khula, then one talaaqe baain will take place and the woman will have to sit in iddat. The iddat is three menstrual cycles. Kaffarah cannot be given for the iddat.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
